They're Home

Mr. Clingingsmith reports that the men and women of the 1-206 Field Artillery are safely home. Welcome back 1-206 and  thank you for your dedication and commitment to serving our country!

Project Payback

Several years ago, troop 149's High Adventure crew was very fortunate to spend a weekend down in Arkansas as guests of the 1-206 Field Artillery. Our scouts were treated as equals among the men and were able to get a glimpse into what our service men and women do to remain prepared and ready in peace time. Now that preparedness is being tested in war as the 1-206th has been deployed to Iraq and is in the midst of the conflict.

One of our Assistant Scoutmasters, Mr. Clingingsmith, is a personal friend with the LTC, Keith Klemmer. Mr. Clingingsmith has launched an effort for us, Project Payback, to show our appreciation and care for the men and women of the 1-206th not only as a way to show our support for the our troops in harms way, but also as a way to return the favor of their hospitality to us when we were their guests on base.

Our goal for Project Payback is to collect cookies, candies and other similar food items, as well as letters to the unit, and ship them every few weeks for their entire year long deployment. Mr. Clingingsmith will collect the items and periodically ship them off to the unit. To date, we have already sent 3 shipments that have arrived and already our troop is the talk of the base. The men and women keep asking Keith if anything new has arrived (so we had better keep those Oreos flowing!). Also, our main banner that everyone in the troop signed, is hanging in the unit's Tactical Operations Center for all to see as reminder that our thoughts and prayers are with them. The other banners that the scouts made are to be hung in the mess hall where you know they'll be seen every day.

So let's keep the goodies coming!

Patrol Contest

Our Scoutmaster, Mr. Guy, has issued a challenge to the troops patrols to see which patrol can bring in the most cookies and candies for the unit.  The patrol that could bring in the most by weight by the June 15 troop meeting, would win a trip to Culvers for free ice cream as his treat!

On June 15, with bags of cookies and candy, the patrol leaders brought their contributions up front to the scale for the big weigh in. It was a close contest. So close in fact that it was a tie!  Congratulations to the

Great packages! Shared with the soldiers and they loved it. The sign is now hanging in our Tactical Operations Center and will remain there for the duration of our mission here and we'll take it home with us too!

The soldiers all appreciate the amount of effort, time, and money that went into the sign and the packages. I can't thank you and the Scouts of Troop 149 enough. Super job!

As you know, I have been a Den leader for Cub Scout Pack 214 for about the last four years. Gunnar crossed over to Boy Scouts earlier this year, but I missed the ceremony. I look forward to returning and helping out with
him and Troop 214. Man, I miss the hikes and campouts.

"On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight"

God bless you, the leaders and scouts of Troop 149, and their families! Keith
