Introduction

Welcome to the troop! You are as much part of Troop 149 as your son. All parents are invited to take an active role in guiding the troop and are encouraged to attend the monthly parents meeting. The meeting takes place on the second Monday of each month in the St. Marys church basement between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m.  Troop leaders and committee members report on operations each month covering issues such as advancement, events and finances.  It's also an opportunity for new ideas or suggestions and all parents are invited to participate. Contact the Troop Committee Chair, Leslie Guy, for more information.

Some of you may opt to become even more involved by accepting a role as either a committee member or even as an Assistant Scoutmaster working directly with the scouts on advancement and program activities. The key difference between parents meeting participation or committee member and a troop leader is direct involvement with the scouts teaching them the scouting way.  Troop leaders, or Scouters as they are sometimes called, actively participate in the weekly troop meeting, monthly outings, summer camp and other scouting events.  It's a rewarding challenge and an opportunity to become directly involved with your son's experience, as well as help other youth in the community.  Contact our Scoutmaster, Tim Jones, for more information.

Troop Policies (top)

Every family joining the troop receives a copy of the troop's policy manual.  This manual outlines the specific operation components of the troop operations including parents meetings, committee roles, troop meetings, outings, Scout leadership roles, discipline, fund raising and much more. This is a very important document for parents and scouts alike.  Please make sure you either have a printed copy or can download the Acrobat PDF file.

Forms & Important Papers (top)

There are two main monthly documents that are important for Scouts and their parents, parents meeting minutes and outing permission slips. Beginning in 2004, we will post these documents here on the web site to make them easier to find. The parents meeting minutes will be replaced by the most current version each month.

This year, we are trying something new by having outing permission slips available in advance (usually they are available approximately 2 weeks prior to the outing)   Some may not be available prior to the outing due to scheduling and personal time constraints. All of the slips will be available at the troop meetings a week and a half before the outing. The completed slips and camping fees are due at the meeting before the outing.

Troop Committee (top)

Anyone who is a parent/guardian of a registered scout in Troop 149 is automatically a committee member.  Held once monthly at St. Mary’s Church, on the 2nd Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m., all parents/guardians are invited.  Members will help make policy decisions, approve budgets, approve calendar, and sit on Boards of Review.   Committee elections are held annually. Anyone may sign up for any position. Positions are held for one year. New committee members take their position after the committee elections. The Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters may not hold the positions of Committee Chair, Secretary, or Treasurer, nor do they vote on committee discussions. Emails and phone numbers are located on the password protected Roster page. Agendas and meeting minutes are sent via the parents emails list, which is also open to all parents for general discussions. General inquiries can also be sent to the Scoutmaster.
