Introduction (Top)

Troop 149 was fortunate to have a crew of High Adventure scouts go to the Cimarron mountains for 12 days of backpacking at Philmont Scout Ranch. They took Trek #2 that starts in the northern part of the ranch and works its way south through the heart of Philmont, ending with a final night on the trail atop the Tooth of Time Ridge camp.

Travel Information (Top)

NOTE: Mr. Pawloski purchased the Amtrak tickets.  The total cost came out lower than estimated!  Please reimburse Mr. Pawloski $151.50 for the tickets ASAP so he doesn't incur any finance charges on his AMEX card.  The changes are reflected in table below.  Information on the Amtrak Southwest Chief will be coming soon.

Mr. Vannerson will coordinate the Metra and Shuttle bus arrangements and charges.   We may depart from Metra's Fox Lake station as that line arrives downtown at Union Station, the same station Amtrak uses. The McHenry station schedule on Saturday has only one train in the early morning, which would get us downtown way too early.  The Crystal Lake line has a more flexible schedule as well, however that train would take us to the Ogilvie Transportation Center three block to the north of Union Station and we would have to hike to Amtrak.  That's not terrible, but Fox Lake is about the same distance from McHenry as Crystal Lake and it takes us right to Union Station.  We could go out of Crystal Lake if everyone prefers to that route instead. Optionally, we could leave from Fox Lake but return to McHenry via the Union Pacific northwest line on Friday.  We would have to hike the three blocks but the advantage is arriving in McHenry at rush hour on a Friday evening instead of in Fox Lake at the same time.  We have plenty of time to discuss and workout the Metra schedule.
