My Scouting Journal

I've been basically a scout all of my life. I believe that it was the singularly most important activity in my youth in forming my morals and beliefs, from my preteen years through young adult.  I started as a Cub Scout in Pack 3955 and then moved up to Boy Scout Troop 955 out of Edison Park Lutheran Church, Chicago, Illinois.  As a teenager, I started to work at the Chicago Area Council's summer camp, Owasippe Scout Reservation (OSR), outside of Whitehall, Michigan.  After I left the troop, I still remained partially active through a newly formed staff alumni organization, the Owasippe Staff Association (OSA).  The OSA is a non-profit organization that aides the (OSR) through donations and volunteer labor and supplies at spring and fall Fix-it weekends.   But I drifted away and left scouting behind when I went back to college.  But when my oldest son become a scout and I volunteered as an Assistant Scoutmaster. I'm back and having a blast.  And I am able to watch my son grow and develop the same skills and values I acquired when I was a scout.

2/1/2005 The Scouter149 and troop149 sites have merged and are now hosted on the troop149mchenry.org site. I've split this content off separate from the rest of that site to differentiate the telling of my personal journey from the rest of the troop website, which is primarily a resource in support of troop activities for the scouts and their parents as well as resource for all leaders.
